Calitriche Hamulata. (Water Starwort)
Calitriche Hamulata is a water star wort, native plant. These plants will grow in damp soils, on the surface of the water or in up to 60cm of water.
They are a fantastic oxygenator and are loved by amphibians as they create a 'safe habitat for them to live and reproduce in where larger predators cannot access.
Try planting on the edge of your pond to create a mat effect that hides the pond edge and creates an access point for frogs, toads and newts. The plant once established can also be used to support other plants.
In ponds with certain fish plants or pots on the bottom may often get moved about and dislodged. Or if you want to plant something that cant go as deep as your pond. Once this plant is established it will be thick enough that you can plant other plants through it. Treating the dense foliage like you would the soil in the garden. We have been trying this in our fish pond and it works really well.
This plant comes as a bare rooted bunch. For floating tie it in where desired so it stays in place until established. For planted in water, plant in an aquatic pot and stage it down to the depth you need (no more than 60cm). For soil, plant a couple of cm deep and water in.
