Alchemilla mollis. (Lady's Mantle)
Alchemilla mollis is a soft delicate perennial that overwinters underground, growing in spring with delicate soft pale green almost furry leaves which grow over the summer creating a delicate ground cover. From these emerge plumes of floaty yellow flowers that if not for the colour would resemble candyfloss.
It is a fantastic plant in that it is very easy to grow tolerant to both frost & drought as well as damp & is pest resisitant. It grows happily in poor soils and shady areas. Fantastic for underplanting.
Will multiply year by year can be allowed to grow to produce a wonderful swathe that floats in the wind.
When in flower sits around 50cmso good for mid to back of border or containers.
Shade tolerant so good for underplanting and darker areas.
Also tolerant to moisture can be planted near ponds and streams.
The delicate flowers offer interesting texture to a scheme and the leaves give a variation on the green colourings in a garden.
Sent in a 9cm pot upon arrival unpack & water if necessary allow a couple of days in cool shade to recover before planting. When planting dig a hole the same size as the pot fill with water and if preferred a pinch of slow release fertiliser (also available to purchase). Soak the pot and remove the plant with all the soil to minimise root disturbance. Place in the hole fill in and firm into place to ensure no air bubbles. Water in and allow to settle. May require further watering during hot weather.
