Ziziphus parryi (Parry's Jujube)
A rare and fantastically unusual edible fruiting shrub. Originating in the desert this is also referred to as the desert apple or desert plum. It is related to the buckthorn and has mid sized green leaves and thorns along the stem which protects it from most predators. Then shrub grows to a medium size and has delicate yellow flowers in mass before lush plum like fruits.
Best in free draining soil in a bright location protected from winter frosts. Water sparingly.
