Lonicera (Honeysuckle)
Honeysuckle as they are more commonly known are fantastic fast growing climbers/ramblers which typically have dark green leaves on stems which begin flexible and harden to tough rugged plants. This makes them great for training over trellis, obelisks or through hedges. They are tough hardy and reliable and will even take a hard prune so there is no fear of cutting them back. Tolerant of most soil types, exposed or sheltered positions in all but deep shade and happy near the coast.
However its the flowers we grow these for, terminal clumps of incredibly highly scented flowers in mass begin in summer and continue through autumn. The scent is released in the late afternoon through evening and just fills the air. A simple must have, (We recommend planting by your doorway or gateway if you have one). Not only scented the flowers are attractive in various shades of pink, red, yellow and white and form in mass across the plants. Following these flowers are bright red ornamental berries adding late interest and a food source for wild birds.
Fantastic for wildlife and attracting moths and other night feeding insects. A favourite here of the elephant hawkmoth and hummingbird moth.
Many variations occur and we are offering a lucky dip cultivar however it is guaranteed to be fully hardy and scented, the photos show examples. Each plant come well rooted in a 9cm pot ready to be planted out. These do lose their leaves in winter so don't be alarmed, this is normal.
