Hydrangea Lace Cap Blue
Hydrangea are well known large blousy shrubs that traditionally change colour depending upon the soil type. Deep pink in alkaline soils. Bright blue in acidic and purple in neutral.
The new cultivars however keep their colour no matter the soil so now you can have a range of colours.
This blue lace cap offers a delicate yet large flower in a pale blue throughout summer. It prefers part shade but will tolerate full sun through to shade,
Hydrangea's are often seen as woodland garden plants but equally as often as coastal garden plants they truly are so versatile.
Lace caps are more forgiving and can be cut back after flowering hard if desired to maintain a compact shrub and will still flower the following year (unlike mopheads which should be only lightly pruned in spring). If left to grow can mature into large shrubs a couple of metres tall and wide or can just as easily be kept small so suitable for large or small spaces.
The plant is sent in 9cm pot, grown from vegetative propagation guaranteeing the cultivar and flowers on a small shrub. The photo shows the parent plant in full flower. These can be grown on then planted to final position or planted straight out.
