Amelanchier lamarckii (Snowy Mespilus)
A. lamarckii is a deciduous shrub or small tree of open habit, with bronze-tinged young leaves which become a classic green over summer and turn orange / red in autumn.
White flowers emerge in mass in spring as the leaves unfurl creating a lovely coppery constrast. Fruit is a red to dark purple berry, soon eaten by birds. If you beat them to it these are actually quite tasty and go well in a fruit salad.
An attractive shrub that can be kept smaller for the garden or allowed to grow into a tree. It also works well as hedging.
Best in full sun or part shade in fertile free draining soils.
Comes in a litre pot approximately 25cm tall.
