Crocosmia 'Saracen'
Crocosmia are perennials that flower in late summer or autumn, they have tall grass like leaves that emerge from coums underground in spring that grow to around 40 cm tall.
From the base emerges flower spikes that hold numerous trumpet like flowers in classic hot colours from pale yellow to hot orange and deep red. The flower typically last a few weeks taking colour through into the autumn/winter.
Sometimes misunderstood, confused with their more invasive cousin these will create healthy clumps but not become invasive and can easily be lifted and split in spring if required.
Saracen is unusual form as it hard dark coppery bronze leaves and deep orange flowers. A striking contrast which is fantastic in mixed borders and large containers.
These are hardy, tolerant to most soil types and aspects. They do require full sun for best flowering.
Plants will be shipped in a 9cm pot.
Upon arrival unpack and water place in a cool semi shady spot to allow to recover from shipping. After a day or two these can be planted out. Dig a hole the size of the pot and fill with water. Sprinkle a handful of slow release food granules into the hole (this is optional but will give the plants an added boost and can be purchased with your order) soak the plant pot and remove the whole plant and its soil in one place directly into the hole back firm and firm in well to ensure their are no air pockets. Water in. Should the weather be hot during planting further watering may be necessary. Otherwise simply enjoy and trim back old flowers head once they have gone over.
