Lysimachia cillata 'Firecracker' (Purple Loosestrife)
Lysimachia are herbaceous perennials which means they lose their leaves during there dormant season as a way of surviving the bad weather. They then regrow and flower before the cycle begins again each year.
Purpurea also known as Firecracker grows to up to a metre tall when in flower the spikes of canary yellow flowers really shout out and look fantastic in beds and borders. The leaves on this cultivar emerge in spring tinged pink which is very pretty in itself these especially against the dark foliage a wonderful addition to any border to add contrast.
Will multiply well should you wish for a large patch of them. Once at the size you are happy with simply remove any extra shoots in spring to keep restrained.
The plants are best in the ground fantastic in beds and borders and work well near ponds and streams.
Best in full sun, will grow in semi shade but may not show the variegation as well. Plant out and enjoy.
Plants will be shipped in a 9cm pot. Upon arrival unpack and water place in a cool semi shady spot to allow to recover from shipping. After a day or two these can be planted out. Dig a hole the size of the pot and fill with water. Sprinkle a handful of slow release food granules into the hole (this is optional but will give the plants an added boost and can be purchased with your order) soak the plant pot and remove the whole plant and its soil in one place directly into the hole back firm and firm in well to ensure their are no air pockets. Water in. Should the weather be hot during planting further watering may be necessary. Otherwise simply enjoy and trim back old flowers head once they have gone over.
