Oxalis 'Burgundy'. (Flowering Sorrel)
Oxalis come in many forms colours shapes and sizes each adorable in its own way. The majority are perennials some entering dormancy as roots others as tubers others not at all. All are ideal alpines for front of borders pots and containers. Rarely growing to more than 10-15cm.
Burgundy has rich chocolate brown leaves in trilobed clover shapes each with a stunning rich purple underside. The flowers are bold yellow and have five petals. These are a cm in size and the plant will have masses of these when it flowers. The flowering season can extend to most months on the year depending on conditions.
Mound forming the plants are excellent for pots and containers as well as beds and borders, The habit and leaf underside makes them ideal for baskets as well.
This cultivar does not have bulbs unlike many oxalis and only goes dormant if exposed to cold weather. If kept from frosts these will continue throughout the year.
Either plant in a sheltered spot or somewhere they can be brought in or covered if you have hard frosts.
Plant in full sun in free draining soil.
Plants will be shipped in the pot size selected.
Upon arrival unpack and water place in a cool semi shady spot to allow to recover from shipping. After a day or two these can be planted out. Dig a hole the size of the pot and fill with water. Sprinkle a handful of slow release food granules into the hole (this is optional but will give the plants an added boost and can be purchased with your order) soak the plant pot and remove the whole plant and its soil in one place directly into the hole back firm and firm in well to ensure their are no air pockets. Water in. Should the weather be hot during planting further watering may be necessary. Otherwise simply enjoy and trim back old flowers head once they have gone over.
